From humble beginnings as a model farm in 1899 to becoming West Africa's premier agricultural institution, discover the rich history of FCAIB.

The Federal College of Agriculture, Ibadan (FCAIB) stands as a testament to Nigeria's commitment to agricultural education and development. Established in 1921, it holds the distinction of being the first agricultural institution in Nigeria and West Africa.

The institution's origins trace back to Moor Plantation, which was founded in 1899 as a model farm for rubber propagation and agricultural improvement. This rich heritage has shaped FCAIB into the institution it is today – a beacon of agricultural education that has produced thousands of skilled professionals over more than a century.

Key milestones that shaped our institution

1899

Origins at Moor Plantation

Moor Plantation was established as a model farm for rubber propagation and agricultural improvement, laying the foundation for agricultural education in Nigeria.

1921

School of Agriculture Founded

Mr. O.T. Faulkner, the then Director of Agriculture in Nigeria, established the School of Agriculture. Classes began in a converted store of corrugated iron sheets in Bora.

1926

First Permanent Building

The first permanent building was erected, marking a significant milestone in the institution's physical development and establishing a more permanent presence.

1954

Relocation to Present Site

Following regionalization, the institution relocated to its present site at Moor Plantation, Ibadan, where it continues to thrive today.

1989

NBTE Accreditation

The Agricultural Engineering Programme received full accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), cementing the institution's reputation for quality education.

2011-2014

Expansion of Departments

New departments were established including Agricultural Extension and Management (2011), Horticultural Technology and Home and Rural Economics (2012), and General Studies (2014).

2025

FUNAAB Partnership

Historic partnership with Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) to offer B.Sc degree programs, making FCAIB among Nigeria's first monotechnics to achieve this.

Our Founding Legacy

The School of Agriculture was established by Mr. O.T. Faulkner, the then Director of Agriculture in Nigeria. The mandate was to train agricultural assistants who would serve Nigeria and West Africa.

In its early days, classes began in a converted store of corrugated iron sheets in Bora. Despite these humble beginnings, the institution's commitment to excellence was evident from the start.

The first permanent building was erected in 1926, and following regionalization in 1954, the institution relocated to its present site at Moor Plantation, where it continues to serve as a center of agricultural education excellence.
